Daily Devotional - God's Word For Today

Grateful

Read Numbers 11:1 through 15:41

This passage contains two major examples of how ungrateful and complaining God’s chosen people were as they travelled to the Promised Land. They were quite dissatisfied with the food God provided, which they did not have to plant or reap, just go out in the morning and gather it. Neither were they happy with the land flowing with milk and honey because they did not believe God was able to drive the inhabitants out before them as He had promised. God was not pleased.

How long will this wicked community grumble against me? I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites (Numbers 14:27).

When my son-in-law survived a head-on collision recently, I realized how easily we slip into ingratitude, taking simple things for granted. As a result of his many injuries, he looked forward to the day when he could scratch his own nose and hold his infant son. We see from today’s passage how God feels about complaining. Rather, He is pleased when we rejoice—always.

Prayer for Today: Father, please remind me when I seem ungrateful for Your many blessings. Thank You.
